The Miners defeated Stansbury 3-2 on Thursday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at two with Park City batting in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Ben Agnew singled off of the Stallions Mitch McIntrye, driving in one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Senior Ryan Brady struck out eight, while Mitch McIntrye sat down eight for Stansbury.
Stansbury took an early lead in the first inning when Clayton Stanwork grounded out, scoring one run. But the Miners evened things up at two in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Payton Gross tripled on a 0-1 count in the fourth inning, scoring two runs.
Gross, senior Sam Starley, sophomore Max Mobley, and Agnew each managed one hit to lead while the Miners were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Gross had the most chances in the field with ten.
The Stallions had seven hits in the game. McIntrye and Parker Buys each collected multiple hits for Stansbury and the Stallions didn’t commit a single error in the field. Matt McIntrye had the most chances in the field with nine.
Park City is now 16-3 overall and 9-1 in region play and have a 1.5 game lead over Stansbury with 2 region dates against Tooele and Union left on the scheduled.
