Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Softball Drops Region Opener to Grantsville 16-0

Strong start defensively for Park City unable to hold off the patient bats of Grantsville. The miners failed to reach base in the top of the first despite three quality at bats. Senior Ashley Farquharson started at pitcher in her first game back from competing with the Junior National Luge Team. Farquharson settled in after walking the first two batters and forced the next hitters into ground balls to end the inning. A few aggressive base runners and a well hit ball plated 3 runs for the Cowboys.
Sophomore Amanda Riely opened the second with a line drive to center, followed by a walk from Sophomore Annie Sheinberg. A promosing start was quelled quickly with junior Salina Ochoa hitting into a double play. Freshman Ari Clevenger struck out swinging, stranding Riely on 3rd.
The Miners momentarily swung momentum in their favor when Grantsville’s A. Casper was thrown out at third attempting to stretch a double. Left fielder Tiana Clevenger recovered quickly getting the ball into SS Ochoa who relayed to 3rd baseman Riely. Unfortunately, the Cowboys remained composed and patient drawing several walks to extend the inning. Aggressive baserunning coupled with a few defensive miscues scored another 4 runs.
A groundout and two strikeouts had Park City quickly back in the defensive side. The Cowboys once again used patience to draw free passes followed by some well struck balls to end the fan by run rule 16-0.
