The Miners just returned from the the tough, cutthroat Copper Classic at Bingham High School, a huge tournament – 53 schools and 700 entries – that is a qualifier for the National Tournament of Champions. To say the competition is intense is a wild understatement. The PCHS Debate team behaved and performed like champs… here are some individual highlights:
Novice National Extemp: Kristina Schiffman and Carter Thompson tied for 1st place!
Novice Policy: Sam Peterson & Nick Gardner, debating together for the first time, broke into elimination rounds and made it to Semis.
Novice Congress: Ron Dragoo and Luke Seaver, both debating for the first time, broke into the Final Congress Round. Ron took 3rd place overall.
Novice LD: Zach Primo broke into elimination rounds and battled to take 1st place!
Open Impromptu: Jordan Blake and Adam Herbst both broke into the Final Impromptu round. Jordan took 5th overall.
Open National Extemp: Aidin O’Brien, competing in this event for the first time, took 2nd place overall!
Open Foreign Extemp: Liz Cantlebary took 3rd place overall.
Open Congress: Adam Hickey broke into the Final Congress round and took 4th place overall.
Open Lincoln-Douglas Debate: Teia Swan and Abi Kretschmar both debated fabulously and broke into elimination rounds. Abi made it to quarter finals, taking 7th overall; while Teia fought on to Semis, taking 3rd overall.
Open Public Forum Debate: PF was was a huge TOC bid, with over 70 entries. Kyle Haas and Reese Adams fought through six tough rounds to break into elimination. They made it to Octofinals.
Open Policy Debate: Policy was also a highly competitive TOC bid event. Both our teams of Robbie Allison and Serena Haas and Devon Gregory and Kieran Ahern fought heroically to prevent a block of sweeps by certain schools. Robbie and Serena broke into elimination rounds and made it to Octofinals.
